Walmart and Washington D.C in minimum wage showdown, by: Reuters, September 6th 2013
In this article we are told that Washington is pushing to raise the minimum wage for large companies that are located in the Washington D.C area. This raise in wages can have a large effect on the economy, if the bill passes then Walmart may not move its business into the Washington area and it may cost the Washington area 1800 jobs. If the bill doesn't pass then Walmart will move into the area and that will create a lot of jobs in an area that is currently trying to battle unemployment. I personally think that they shouldn't pass the bill so that the Walmart does move into the area which will create a lot of jobs for the unemployed people in the area. Another effect not passing the bill can have is the attraction of more large, job-rich companies which can really help the economy in the D.C area to grow and decrease unemployment rates.

I agree that the bill should not be passed considering it would help our economy as a whole, but i also wonder why the would want to pass it considering by not passing it unemployed job rates would go down.
ReplyDeleteThe bill should not be passed because it would help the economy, and decrease unemployment rates. You chose a great article to write about, and I also do wonder why they would pass the bill.
ReplyDeleteThe bill should not be passes because the economy would improve over all and make employment go down through the nation.
ReplyDeleteOne could argue that it gives the employees more money, but if they pass this bill there will no jobs at all. So hence no money at all will be made by any employees in this area. Passing this bill will just keep jobs out of the area which is a bad decision.
